Pharmacy Assistant - Diploma

The triOS College Pharmacy Assistant Diploma Program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to start a rewarding career as a Pharmacy Assistant.

The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for receiving prescriptions, drug preparation, clerical and computer duties, inventory management and customer service in the dispensary. Pharmacy Assistants must at all times work directly under the supervision and guidance of the Pharmacist. The role is meant to assist the Pharmacist in the dispensing process of the product to allow the Pharmacist to have more time to provide pharmaceutical care.

The Pharmacy Assistant Program prepares students for employment opportunities in retail, hospital and other healthcare settings. The triOS Pharmacy Assistant Program has significant benefits over programs offered at Community Colleges.

The triOS program:
? is 41 weeks in duration rather than 2 years so you can get into the workforce quicker;
? is 5 hours per day of instruction, enabling you to work part-time while you study;
? offers year-round starting points so you don?t have to wait until September or January to join a program.

Topics of this program include: Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Business Communications); Human Anatomy and Physiology; Medical Terminology; Pharmacology; Pharmacy Law and Ethics; Pharmacy Math; Retail Pharmacy Practice; Sterile Product Preparation; Pharmacy Compounding; Hospital Pharmacy; Pharmacy Software; First Aid and CPR; Client Service and Career Management.

Career Opportunities

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you?ll work as part of a health care team to ensure that consumers receive the best possible pharmaceutical care. Graduates of the triOS Pharmacy Assistant program may work for Pharmacists in community or clinical pharmacies, home healthcare divisions/companies and pharmaceutical distribution wholesalers.

Employment of Pharmacy Assistants is expected to grow due to the increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger and older population, and to the greater use of medication. With advances in science, more medications are becoming available to treat more conditions. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people-who, on average, use more prescription drugs than do younger people-will spur demand for assistants.
