The Entertainment Design program will teach art, theory, and mechanics pertaining to special effects products and animatronic systems, and will fill the growing need for trained fabricators that understand the artistic side of 3D entertainment. The program fosters creativity, innovation, and technical skills, preparing students for careers in the motion-picture industry, theater, themed entertainment, and immersive entertainment environments.
Graduates will learn to design both architectural and virtual experiences and will use facilities ranging from a fabrication shop to a digital compositing studio. These designs involve conceptualizing, organizing, writing, and illustrating the specifications necessary for the construction and execution of material and digital experiences.
Students will complete a selection of design, fabrication, video, and audio courses, and then focus on combining these skills to produce integrated entertainment experiences. Students must have strong conceptual, material and virtual modeling, and interpersonal skills to succeed in this field.
The Entertainment Design program prepares students to seek entry-level positions in the special effects and exhibit development field, with specific training to work in the entertainment field. The opportunities for graduates are enhanced by the combination of material and virtual design course-work. Because of the applications to themed entertainment and simulations, among other venues, graduates of this program will support the many museums, historic sites, and amusement parks that are using interactive and virtual technologies at a growing rate.
The mission of the Entertainment Design program is to teach the art, theory, mechanics, and maintenance of entertainment design. These qualities define the form of special effects products and animatronic systems and fill the growing need for trained personnel that understand the artistic side of 3D entertainment. This program offers an educational environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and technical skills, preparing students for careers in the motion-picture industry, theater, themed entertainment, and immersive entertainment environments.
