? Advanced knowledge of industry-related software used for graphic design
? Application of basic business standards related to graphic design
? Developing client relations and the fundamentals of design as a business
The Graphic Design program at The Art Institute of Colorado is designed to prepare students to think critically and to solve problems through visual communication. Offered through two educational paths, the Bachelor of Science degree program and the Associate of Applied Science degree program, students have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of effective design and apply these skills to produce creative communicative pieces.
Encompassing a multifaceted and broad range of media, graphic design conveys information in a timely, creative, and effective manner. As students progress through the program, they are trained to develop an individual design style using the technical and conceptual tools acquired. Students complete the program with a working portfolio that represents their dedication, character, and creativity.
By designing innovative solutions that are articulate, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing, students can become creative professionals in the dynamic field of graphic design. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of drawing and design, and the technical application of appropriate computer software. Specifics in design elements are integrated to give substance and creativity to pieces. Students then have the opportunity to move beyond the technical skills of graphic design and begin to incorporate production and printing components. Components of website design are introduced and production on portfolio begins.
Students in the bachelor?s degree program have the opportunity to examine the business practices of graphic design and industry law and regulation. The bachelor?s degree program is completed with a senior project and portfolio opportunity that enables students to gain real-world experience and hone client relation skills.
